Helping Chinese Continue to Grow in Canada
Canada Dexin Academy is a Chinese education institution serving families in Canada, with Chinese language education at its core, project learning as an extension, and community collaboration as a growing part of its educational model.
We aim to create an environment where children growing up in Canada can continue learning and using Chinese, understand the culture it carries, and develop broader abilities through meaningful activities and projects.
Chinese can be more than a language used at home. It can become part of how children read, think, collaborate, create and express themselves.
Why Dexin Exists
For many Chinese-heritage children growing up overseas, Chinese first comes from home.
As children enter school, English increasingly becomes the main language of learning, reading, friendship, and everyday expression. Early family conversation does not automatically keep developing.
A child may still understand Chinese but speak it less, manage simple conversations but struggle to read complex texts, express a complete viewpoint, or complete learning and collaborative tasks in Chinese.
We want Chinese to keep moving forward at every stage of a child’s growth.

Chinese civilization reflects thousands of years of accumulated language, history, literature, art, thought, and practical wisdom—an inheritance each generation can continue to learn from and carry forward.
For Chinese-heritage children growing up in Canada, putting down roots overseas does not require growing distant from Chinese culture. We hope they can participate naturally in Canadian life, respect different cultures, and still understand where their own cultural inheritance comes from.
Cultural education is not simply knowing facts about history, festivals, or tradition. We hope children encounter qualities worth valuing: kindness, integrity, responsibility, respect, resilience, cooperation, and the wish to keep becoming better.
Who Leads Dexin’s Educational Work
Michael Xiao
Principal · Director of Curriculum
Michael Xiao is Principal and Director of Curriculum at Canada Dexin Academy. He is the primary designer of the school’s educational philosophy and curriculum system, overseeing curriculum development, teaching quality, teacher development, and academic direction.
He holds a Master’s degree in Education from the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, where his studies included educational theory, curriculum design, child development, and research.
He has more than 14 years of experience teaching Chinese and Chinese as an international language, holds a Registered Teacher of Chinese as a Foreign Language credential, and has more than eight years of Cantonese teaching experience.

Why Dexin Looks Across Different Chinese Curricula
Chinese-heritage children overseas learn in an environment unlike any single predominantly Chinese-speaking region.
Dexin therefore does not simply copy one textbook or curriculum. We draw references from curriculum content and development in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore, then select and redesign material around children’s language environment, school experience, and development in Canada.
These curricula are references—not accreditations, endorsements, or institutional partnerships. We consider why different systems are designed as they are and what genuinely suits children growing up in Canada.

Building More Than a Classroom
We want Chinese learning to become more than a classroom children visit once a week.
When children become interested in robotics, buildings, theatre, sports, business, design, nature, or technology, we hope to gradually find people with real experience who can answer questions and translate knowledge into age-appropriate projects.
Dexin hopes to build collaboration over time with schools, educational organizations, businesses, community groups, and professionals across the Greater Toronto Area. This is a developing vision, not a claim that such a network already exists.
