Let Chinese become part of how children learn and grow.

Children growing up overseas experience Chinese in very different ways from children living in predominantly Chinese-speaking environments. At Canada Dexin Academy, we help students develop Chinese as an evolving language for reading, thinking, communicating, collaborating and expressing ideas — not simply as something they understand at home or practise in class.

Learning Chinese overseas is about more than how much a child has studied.

For many children growing up in Canada, Chinese begins at home. Early listening and family conversation do not necessarily continue developing into the teen years.

As English becomes the main language of school, reading, and friendships, Chinese literacy and expression need intentional opportunities to grow.

We therefore consider not only whether a child studies Chinese, but whether their Chinese can keep growing with them.

Young children build language through meaningful listening, speaking, and interaction.

Stories, picture books, songs, movement, games, crafts, and themed activities help Chinese become part of what children are already doing.

Children are encouraged to respond, ask, participate, and share as confidence develops.

Assessment · Personalized development

By the teen years, students may have very different Chinese-language profiles.

Some speak comfortably but need literacy support; others read but seldom express ideas aloud. Goals and family language environments also vary.

We first learn about the student’s current level, experience, and goals, then discuss a suitable direction and course arrangement together.

Project classes do not turn every interest into a language lesson. They create opportunities to keep using Chinese while children pursue meaningful interests and complete work together.

Projects and participation are designed around student age, learning stage, and the specific project.

Learning a language also means discovering the culture it carries.

Language does not exist in isolation. Characters, stories, rhymes, and customs can connect to history, ways of life, and values.

We hope children discover Chinese culture while learning to understand connections and differences among cultures with openness.

Let language carry culture, and let culture nurture character.
